Ipl 4 Teams The 4th Season of

plus finish upon 22nd May 2011.
The 4th Season of Indian Premier
League – IPL 2011 will start from
8th April 2011 and end on 22nd
May 2011.In IPL 4, two new
teams Sahara Pune Warriors and
Kochi have been added.IPL
teams. Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee
and Shaun Marsh are the only
local players in the highest pay
bracket, putting a minimum price
of $US400,000 per season on
themselves.
IPL 4 2011 teams players – IPL 4
2011 Schedule Peter Siddle, Ben
Hilfenhaus and Stuart Clark are
among the 72 Australian players
whose nominations for the
upcoming Indian Premier League
auction have been accepte Amin,
current chairman &
commissioner of IPL, and CEO,
Sundar Raman. It presently
includes 10 teams franchises
consisting of players from
different countries. It was started
after an altercation between the
BCCI and the Indian Cricket
League.
The Players auction for IPL
season 4 is scheduled For
January 8 and 9 in Bangalore.
Total 416 players ater pruned to
350 would be put for auction in
British style. As per rules, each
player in the auction pool must
mention reserved price. With this
rule, franchise owners would not
be able to bid lower than what is
reserved by player itself. Player is
allowed to set reserve price
between $200,000 to $400,000.

IPL REASULT

Bangalore: India's
temperamental fast bowler
Shantakumaran Sreesanth was
happy to be a part of his home
team as the Kochi franchise
bought him for $900,000 during
the players' auction for Indian
Premier League (IPL) season four
here Saturday.
"Thanks a lot for ur support and
wishes..gr8 to be in home
team..kochi," Sreesanth tweeted.
Sreesanth had a base price of $
200,000 and Deccan Chargers
were the first to show interest in
him. Deccan Chargers and Delhi
Daredevils were engaged in a
small tussle over the fast bowler,
who has been in fine form in the
Test series in South Africa.
Live Updates: IPL auction 2011
The contest continued for three
minutes and as his value touched
$850,000, Kochi owners jumped
in the fray and bought him for $
950,000.
Kings XI Punjab, who had bought
Sreesanth for $625,000 at the
first auction, didn't show any
interest in the fast bowler.
Kochi's coach Geoff Lawson said
they took Sreesanth purely on
the basis of his current
performance and not because
he is a local boy.
"Sreesanth has been in a great
form in South Africa. He is a
brilliant bowler and has done
well for India. He is a valuable
player, he will be a great role
model for the team," said the
Australian, adding the franchise
will come out with a team name
shortly.
Besides, Sreesanth, the Kochi
team also bought V.V.S. Laxman
($400,000), Rudra Pratap Singh
($500,000), Mahela Jayawardene
($1.5 million) and Brendon
McCullum ($475,000).
Images: IPL auction 2011
Lawson, a former Pakistan coach,
said the franchise will try to
make the most of the remaining
$5.225 million left in their purse.
"We have got some good ideas.
We have bought three Indians so
far and we are fairly happy.
Things get unpredictable during
the auction, but we are trying to
make the most of what we have.
We still have some money left in
the bank," said Lawson.
"We all are excited. I am very
happy to be a part of IPL. This
will be great for the people of
Kerala," he said.

IPL

To wrap up the day’s
proceedings: the day opened
with Gautam Gambhir and it
turned out to be the costliest
one of the day at an astounding
$2.4 million for Kolkata Knight
Riders.
$57,900,000 were spent today at
IPL auction. Kochi had the most
buys, 11. Mumbai and Rajasthan
bought the least: four each.
Reigning champs Chennai Super
Kings bought six, out of which
four were retained. They lost
Muttiah Muralitharan to Kochi,
but went after R Ashwin, taking
him for $850,000, their costliest
buy.
Indian players were in great
demand – Yusuf Pathan was also
bought by Kolkata, for 2.1
million while Robin Uthappa
went to Pune Warriors for the
same price.
Rohit Sharma (2 million,
Mumbai), Irfan Pathan (1.9
million, Delhi), Yuvraj Singh (1.8
million, Pune), Saurabh Tiwary
(1.6 million Bangalore) were the
other top picks.
The highest paid foreign player is
Mahela Jayawardene, taken for
1.5 million by Kochi.
The big news from India’s point
of view was Sourav Ganguly
going unsold, along with his
Kolkata team-mates Chris Gayle
and Ajantha Mendis.
Ganguly’s contemporaries, Rahul
Dravid went to Rajasthan for
500,000 while VVS Laxman went
to Kochi for 400,000.
Brian Lara was also among the
players much talked about, but
the former West Indies batsman
did not get any bids.
Dale Steyn and Jacques Kallis
were the million-dollar buys
from South Africa — no
surprises there — but Johan
Botha drawing 950,000 from
Rajasthan was surprising.
Ravindra Jadeja was picked up by
Kochi for 950,000 as was
Sreesanth went to the same
team for 900,000.

fall.
17.45 - No takers for Tamim
Iqbal. Callum Ferguson goes for

17.37 - Eoin Morgan next.
Kolkata take him for 350,000.
Brad Hodge goes for 425,000 to

Nathan McCullum goes to Pune
for 100,000 his base price. His
brother Brendon went to Kochi.
Next, Ramesh Powar, who goes
to Kochi for 180,000.
17.24 - Murali Kartik, formerly of
KKR, goes unsold. Some of KKR
ex-players seem to be black-
listed at this auction. Gayle,
Ganguly, Mendis… all unsold.
17.19 - Ajantha Mendis unsold.
Pragyan Ojha “stands tall like a
mountain in Indian cricket”,
roars Sidhu. I’m sure he wasn’t
talking about Kapil Dev or Anil
Kumble. Ojha has been retained
by Deccan for 500,000.
17.17 - R Ashwin next. Chennai
retain him for 850,000. “Young
Indian players is what teams
want to bank upon”, says senior
scribe Ayaz Memon.
17.16 - Piyush Chawla goes for
900,000 to Punjab. Well.

17.12 - Graeme Swann goes
unsold! Shocker! Some teams
haven’t done their homework, it
seems. Swann is possibly the best
off-spinner on the international
circuit today and a handy bat
too. And who can forget his
Sprinkler Dance? Too good a
man to be considered.
17.10 - Muttiah Muralitharan
goes to Kochi for 1.1 million. No
surprises here. He had a terrific
IPL 2010 and Champions League
2010, and was one of the
reasons why Chennai won both
tournaments.
17.04 - Lots of comments about
Sourav Ganguly’s exclusion.
Sadly for Dada’s fans, the team
owners don’t share their
sentiments. “I won’t support KKR
without Ganguly,” says Sayan B.
Arup and Vikas Doshi call for a
boycott of IPL matches at Eden
Gardens.
17.02 - Doug Bollinger retained
for 700,000 by Chennai.
17.00 – Mahesh writes in the
comments: “I am also a cricket
player and much better than all
these players except Sachin and
year when he was their in
Madras for selection I was got
refusal from my parents and
might be my name has also got
written in cricket history books as
one of the best cricketer in both
bowling and bating.”
Our heart-felt sympathies,
Mahesh.
16.58 - Dirk Nannes goes for
650,000 to Bangalore. Good
bowler, fair price.
16.55 - Ryan Harris goes to Kings
XI for 3250,000.
16.49 - Dale Steyn up next. He
starts at 200,000. This should be
interesting. 600,000 and
counting. Will Bangalore try to
retain him?
1 million and counting! Steyn is
the first pace bowler today to
reach into seven-figures.
Deccan take Steyn at 1.2
million.
16.48 - Morne Morkel goes to
Delhi for 475,000.
16.45 - Brett Lee goes for
Kolkata to 400,000. Interesting
buy. Lee has had major fitness
problems, though he’s been
named in Australia’s World Cup
30.
16.43 – Ashish Nehra is snapped
up by Pune for 850,000.

16.38 - Praveen Kumar is doing
well. Delhi put 650,000 on the
table. Punjab make it 800,000,
and take Praveen away.
16.35 - Ishant Sharma next. In
2008, he was bought by Kolkata
by 950,000. Sold to Deccan for
450,000. No surprises here.
Ishant’s stock has fallen
dramatically since his fine start in
2008.
16.34 - After the break, Dilhara
Fernando goes unsold. Next,
James Anderson starts at
400,000, also goes unsold.
16.04 - James Franklin goes to
Mumbai for 100,000. The auction
breaks for 30 minutes before the
evening session.
16.03 - Steven Smith, the
upcoming leg-spinning all-
rounder from Australia, goes to
Kochi for 200,000.
16.02 - Dwayne Bravo goes to
Chennai for his base price,
200,000. Remember, Ravindra
Jadeja was bought for 950,000.
16.00 - Angelo Matthew, the
exciting Sri Lankan all-rounder,
goes to Pune for 950,000.
15.54 - Abhishek Nayar gets 16
times his base price, sold to
Punjab for 800,000!
15.48 – England bowler Stuart
Broad, a fine all-rounder, goes
to Kings XI Punjab for 400,000.
15.46 – Bangladesh captain
Shakib Al Hasan goes to Kolkata
Knight Riders for 425,000.
15.45 – England’s Luke Wright
goes unsold.
15.39 – Ravindra Jadeja goes to
Kochi for 950,000. Where are the
Jadeja jokes now?
15.36 – Australian all-rounder
and former Kings XI Punjab
employee James Hopes moves
with Delhi Daredevils for
350,000.
15.33 - Davy Jacobs goes to
Mumbai for 190,000.
15.28 - No takes for Mark
Boucher and Matt Prior. They
are veteran players of the long
format; maybe the IPL teams
reckoned they don’t have a long
shelf life.
15.24 - Tim Paine, the Australian
keeper bat and their T20 vice-
captain, goes for 270,000 to
Pune.
15.19 - Brad Haddin, the
Australian keeper batsman, goes
to Kolkata for 325,000. Haddin
was in fine form in the Ashes.
15.16 - Naman Ojha goes to
Delhi for 270,000. There are
stress balls strewn over the
tables on all camps.
15.13 - Kings XI take Dinesh
Karthik for 900,000. A good
keeper, and a useful middle-
order bat. But is he better than
Parthiv and Saha?
15.07 -Parthiv goes to Kochi for
290,000. Chennai Super Kings
take Wriddhiman Saha for
100,000.

400,000. Any takers? No. Lara
goes unsold. This isn’t a
surprise. Lara has been talking of
making a comeback to cricket
but hasn’t been in great shape
for this level of cricket.
14.59 - David Warner, the big-
hitting Australian opener, is next.
He had made a hundred in the
last IPL playing for Delhi. He
goes to Delhi again, for 750,000.
14.58 - David Hussey goes to
Kings XI for 1.4 million. His more
accomplished brother Mike went
to Chennai for just 425,000.

14.49 - Controversy over
Saurabh Tiwary. RCB had the
Ranchi youngster at an
astonishing 1.4 million dollar, but
as auctioneer Richard Madley
put the hammer down, Kings XI
claimed making a late bid. The
bid was for 1.6 million.
Meanwhile, check out photos
of the auction
.
Tiwary has been sold to
Bangalore for 1.6 million.
14.40 – Shikhar Dhawan next.
He was with Mumbai. For
300,000 he goes to Deccan.
14.36 – JP Duminy next. Deccan
buy him for 300,000.
14.31 – Jesse Ryder unsold
immediately after the lunch
break. Herschelle Gibbs next.
The retired South African and
Deccan Chargers batsman also
goes unsold. Michael Hussey
next. Hussey has been retained
by Chennai at $425,000. Good

1.21 - RP Singh, the Purple Cap
winner in 2009, has gone to
Kochi for 500,000. He joins
Sreesanth there.
13.11 – Irfan Pathan next.
Remember what Yahoo! wrote
about him yesterday. He’s
striving to get back to top form
. His brother Yusuf has already
been sold for $2.1 million to
KKR.
Kings XI have put 1 million on
the table for Irfan! What next?
Kings XI want to retain Irfan.
They’ve not put 1.8 million on
Irfan. It’s a contest between
Kings XI and Delhi, who want
Pathan badly.
Delhi take Irfan for 1.9 million
— that’s four million dollars
between him and his brother
Yusuf.
13.10 - Another surprise! Chris
Gayle goes unsold. Who woulda

13.04 - Sreesanth next. Will
Kochi go for him? Kochi cut in
late, at 900,000.
Kochi has managed to get
Sreesanth at 900,000.
13.02 - Brendon McCullum next.
Which team will go for him?
Remember his 158 in the first IPL
match? He goes to Kochi for
475,000. Sidhu describes
McCullum as a man with
‘paranormal abilities’.

problems but he’s a hugely
popular player.
1 million on the table from
Kochi. They’re going for Indian
players at this auction.
2 million from Kochi! And the
bidding continues.
Pune take Uthappa at 2.1
million dollars! He’s the fourth
Indian today to draw a bid of $2
million or more.
12.39 - Graeme Smith, South
Africa captain and Rajasthan
opener, goes to Pune Warriors
for 500,000.
12.35 - Rahul Dravid goes to
Rajasthan Royals for 500,000.
That’s less than half of what
Bangalore’s Icon player had
been earlier paid.
12.29 - Adam Gilchrist next.
Captain of Deccan Chargers,
goes to Punjab, for 900,000.
12.27 – Kumar Sangakkara,
former captain of Kings XI and
current Sri Lanka captain, goes
to Deccan Chargers for 700,000.
12.25 – Mumbai Indians take
Andrew Symonds for 850,000.
Symonds had got 1.5 million at
the inaugural auction in 2008. He
will be playing in the same team
as Harbhajan Singh. How about
that?
12.21 - Rohit Sharma has been
sold to Mumbai for $ 2 million!
Do readers think this is a good
buy?
12.15 - It’s Kallis. This should be
a hotly-contested bid. Kallis has
been in excellent form, and had
done well in previous IPLs too.
Will RCB retain him? He goes for
1.1 million to Kolkata. This is
Kolkata’s third seven-figure buy
today. How will they build the
rest of the team?

Ganguly goes unsold! That

The auction takes a 15 minute
break. The first session has seen
Kolkata spend half their purse of
9 million going just for Gambhir
and Yusuf Pathan. No action
from current champions
Chennai; Mumbai went after
Gambhir aggressively but they
haven’t made any buys yet.
Surprisingly, Zaheer who is in
such good form was sold for just
900,000 to his former IPL team
Bangalore.
Are batsmen valued more than
bowlers? Taylor, Mahela, Yuvraj
also drew seven-figure bids.
11.50 - AB de Villiers, the in-
form South African batsman,
goes to Bangalore for 1.1 million.
He was formerly with the Delhi
Daredevils.

11.43 - Yuvraj Singh is next.
Prepare for some surprises. Kings
XI open another bid at 1 million.
Pune Warriors take Yuvraj for
$ 1.8 million. That’s less than
what Yusuf and Gambhir got.
11.40 - Kings XI fianlly wake up.
They go for one of their own,
Mahela Jayawardene at $1
million. Remember, Mahela had
a terrific IPL 2010 and World T20
2010. Kochi are on the
telephone, they go for Mahela at
1.5 million. And Mahela’s sold
to Kochi at 1.5 million.

11.37 - Kevin Pietersen goes to
Deccan for $650,000. He’d
earlier being bought by RCB for
$1.55 million.
11.27 - Yusuf Pathan is next.
This will be very interesting.
950,000 from Deccan – they
want him bad. $1.3 million from
KKR and counting – yet another
millionaire today. $1.6m from
Kochi. $1.7m from KKR, Kochi
hit back with $1.8m. Will this bid
cross 2 million?
Yes it does! Kochi say 2 million
for Yusuf, KKR say 2.1 million.
Gambhir’s record is in danger.
Kolkata take Yusuf at $2.1
million. They had earlier taken
Gambhir at a record $2.4 million.
Kolkata have used half their
purse of $9 million.
11.23 - Ross Taylor, the big-
hitting Royal Challengers
batsman, is next. Rajasthan
Royals make an appearance, at
900,000. Now it’s 1 million. Two
million-dollar bids already in the
first 26 minutes.
Sold! Rajasthan snare Taylor at $
1 million, right under Mallya’s
nose.
11.20 – Zaheer Khan, formerly
Bangalore and Mumbai, next to
be auctioned. Bangalore get him
at $900,000.
11.17 – Tillakaratne Dilshan, the
Sri Lankan dasher formerly with
Delhi, is next under the hammer.
$650,000 and he goes to
Bangalore.
11.06 - Gautam Gambhir is the
first marquee player to be
auctioned. Kochi open the bid
with at $200,000. Mumbai
Indians and Pune Warriors are
going for him. 450,000 and
counting. 700,000 and no respite.
This is a big opening. Kochi
jumps back into it at 850,000.
Royal Challengers cut in at
900,000. One million and
counting from RCB!
1.8 million! Gambhir becomes
the highest paid IPL player!
And the bidding goes on.
2 million! Kolkata make their first
move, and it’s a big move.
Gambhir has a base price of a
mere $200,000.
At 2.4 million dollars, or 11.04
crore rupees Gautam Gambhir
is sold to Kolkata. This is the
highest an IPL player has been
ever paid. What a start to the
auction.

13:26: The bidding is still on.
Chennai Super Kings raises the
bar to $ 270,000, and higher.
CSK again a gamechanger, bids
$425,000. Kochi steps in with an
offer Singh can't refuse. Several
minutes and $475,000 later, R.P.
Singh will play for team Kochi.
13:24: It is bidding time for R.P.
Singh. The base price 200,000
dollars. It's only a few minutes to
lunch time, but the bidders are
in no hurry. R.P. Singh would be
a definite value addition.
13:23: Delhi Daredevils buys
Irfan Pathan for 1 million
900,000 dollars.
13:22: Irfan Pathan bidding rises
to 1 million 700,000 dollars from
Delhi Daredevils. Irfan Pathan's
bidding goes on and on.....
swinging from Punjab to Delhi. It
is now 1million 900,000 dollars.
13:20: 1 million 500,000 dollars
for Irfan Punjab. Still in bidding
13:13: 1 million for Irfan Pathan
from Punjab. I'm still in shock
about Chris Gayle going unsold.
Bidding for Irfan Pathan is still
on.
13:10: No bid for Chris Gayle!
What is going on! Nobody
wants the match winner from
West Indies.
13:09: Chris Gayle not getting
too many opening bids. Surely
he cant go for a lowly 400,000?
13:08: Wow that came from
nowhere. Kochi bid 900,000 for
Sreesanth out of the blue and
get him. So Sreesanth goes to
his home team.
13:07: Kochi make a splash at
900,000 for Sreesanth.
13:05: Sreesanth in the mix
13:03: Just 475,000 for
McCullum. Kochi buys him at
a seriously low price. This is
an absolute steal!
13:01: The IPL's first centurion,
Brendon McCullum now.
13:00: Daniel Vettori sold for
550,000 to Bangalore. Bit
surprised at the low price. Not
too many bidders for the
spinner.
12:57: 400,000 for VVS Laxman
to Kochi. He got one bid, and
thats the last.
12:55: 950,000 for Johan Botha.
Sold to Rajasthan. That is a
huge sum for Botha. Did
Rajasthan pay too much?
12:53: Bangalore drops out after
Rajasthan bids 750,000 for Botha.
Then Pune step in with 800,000.
12:50: Looks like Bangalore is
keen on Botha. Bangalore
matching Kochi bid for bid.
12:49: South Africa's spinner
Johan Botha now.
12:48: Robin Uthappa going for
a huge sum! 2.1 million to
Pune!
12:47: Kochi and Pune going
head to head for Robin. 2.1
million now for Robin from
Pune.
12:43: Kochi and Pune fight for
Robin, Bid stands at 1.6 million
from Kochi now.
12:43: 1 million from Kochi for
Robin Uthappa and we aren't
done yet. Bangalore might step
in with a bid, they seem keen.
12:42: Big hitter Robin Uthappa
up for grabs.
12:41: Team Pune gets
Graeme Smith for 500,000.
Some laboured bidding there,
not too many franchises keen
on the South African captain.
12:39: Richard about to drop the
hammer but Kochi enter with
420,000 for Smith. Richard
Madley explains that he saw the
last second bid before he
dropped the hammer, so the bid
counts.
12:38: Even Graeme Smith not
getting too many bids. Stuck at
400,000.
12:37: A little painful to watch
as Dravid goes without many
bids. Sold for 500,000 to the
Rajasthan Royals.
12:35: Ex-Bangalore icon player
Rahul Dravid struggling to get
bids here.
12:33: 900,000 for Gilchrist to
Punjab. The opening bid took a
while to come, but the bidding
picked up quickly after.
12:31: Unsold? Who am I
kidding? Bidding on at 850,000
for Gilchrist now.
12:29: Opening bid at 400,000.
So he won't go unsold.
12:29: Adam Gilchrist, you're
up
12:28: Keeper-batsman
Sangakkara goes to Deccan
Chargers for 700,00. Chennai
made a brief bid but backed
out quickly.
12:26: Sri Lanka's Kumar
Sangakkara now.
12:25: Andrew Symonds goes
to the Mumbai Indians for
850,000. Mumbai gobbling up
players here.
12:23: Chennai Super Kings
finally make a bid after staying
on the sidelines all through. Will
they buy their first player?
12:22: Andrew Symonds up for
sale now.
12:21: 2 million for Rohit
Sharma! 2 million! Sold to
Mumbai Indians! Mumbai with
a mammoth bid!
12:20: Priety Zinta and Punjab
keen on Rohit Sharma at 1.1
million, but Mumbai and Deccan
Chargers enter with 1.4 million
bids.
12:19: Can you believe it? 1.1
million for Rohit Sharma. Bidding
still on!
12:18: Step up, Mr. Rohit
Sharma. Another T20
specialist.
12:17: Kallis sold for 1.1
million to Kolkata after
Bangalore exits the race.
12:14: Star player Jacques
Kallis up for sale now. Expect
some frenzied bidding.
12:13: Cameron White goes to
the Deccan Chargers for 1.1
million.
12:11: Can we go back to
Ganguly for a minute? Ganguly
upped his base price from
200,000 to 400,000, it has
backfired on him. No bids for
Ganguly. Silence as Ganguly's
name is called by Richard
Madley, the autioneer. There
was talk that Ganguly might go
unsold, turns out to be true in
the end.
12:11: Cameron White is up
next.
12:09: And we're back with the
bidding. Major setback for
Saurav Ganguly, he goes
unsold!
12:04: Right, a quick recap of the
players sold so far. We have K.C.
Vijaya Kumar, our sports
correspondent, with the
roundup:
Players sold at 12 noon.
Gautam Gambhir , Kolkata
Knight Riders, $2.4 million
Dilshan Tillakaratne, Royal
Challengers Bangalore, $650,000
Zaheer Khan, Royal Challengers
Bangalore, $900,000
Ross Taylor, Rajasthan Royals, $1
million
Yusuf Pathan, Kolkata Knight
Riders, $2.1 million
Kevin Pietersen, Deccan
Chargers, $650,000
Mahela Jayawardene, Kochi, $1.5
million
Yuvraj Singh, Pune, $1.8million
AB de Villiers, RCB, $1.1 million
11:51: We have a short break
now of 15 minutes. Some crazy
bidding going on in this first
session. Yusuf Pathan and
Gambhir setting the stage on fire
with record bids. Still much more
to go.
11:50: 1.1 million for de
Villiers. Bangalore with the
buy.
11:48: AB de Villers now
11:46: Mumbai and Deccan
Chargers fight for Yuvraj, but
Pune comes in with 1.8 million
to get the big hitter.
11:44: In about a minute,
Yuvraj's bid rises to 1.3 million.
Chennai have been rather
inactive thus far, will they enter
with a surprise bid for Yuvraj?
11:43: Here is another prize
catch. Yuvraj Singh.
11:42: Jayawardene sold to
Kochi for 1.5 million. Inflated
price?
11:41: I'm not sure about these
inflated prices. Jayawardene at
1.5 million with Kochi. Is he
really worth this much? It's not
over yet, Kings XI Punjab might
up the bid.
11:40: Hello, what do we have
here? Kings XI Punjab, who have
been silent all the while, comes
in at 1 million for Jayawardene.
11:39: Kochi and Bangalore
battle for Jayawardene.
Bangalore has the bid at 900,000
as of now.
11:38: Who wants Sri Lanka's
Mahela Jayawardene?
11:36: Pietersen sold to
Deccan Chargers for 650,000.
Not too much, very modest
price.
11:34: Pietersen, who played for
Bangalore in the previous
edition, should be hot property
with his pyrotechnics.
11:34: England's former
captain Kevin Pietersen up for
grabs.
11:32: Yusuf Pathan, T20
specialist, is sold for 2.1
million to Kolkata! Just a
shade under Gambhir's 2.4
million.
11:31: As expected, Yusuf's price
is through the roof. Kolkata bids
2.1 million. Bidding still on.
11:29: Kolkata, Kochi and
Deccan Chargers in a three-way
fight for Yusuf.
11:29: In no time, 1 million for
Yusuf Pathan. Bidding still in
progress.
11:27: And now, we have the
big gun - Yusuf Pathan.
Bidding begins in earnest. Will
this be the record buy? Let's
wait and see.
11:26: Rajasthan Royals get
Ross Taylor for exactly 1
million. Nicely done
Rajasthan, Ross Taylor is a
great T20 buy.
11:24: Bid stalls at 850,000 for
Ross Taylor. Bangalore almost
gets him, but Rajasthan enters
the fray with 900,000. This
auction is full of last minute
surprises!
11:23: Time for New Zealand's
explosive Ross Taylor. Who
wants some? Base price
400,000.
11:22: Bangalore steals Zaheer
Khan from Mumbai and Delhi.
Zaheer sold for 900,000 to
Bangalore! Prize catch! Last
minute bid from Bangalore
snares the left arm pacer.
11:20: A bit of a tussle between
Delhi and Mumbai for Zaheer.
850,000 USD right now with the
Mumbai Indians. RCB enters at
900,000.
11:19: Zaheer Khan, India
pacer, now. He has a base
price of 300,000 USG
11:18: 650,000 USD for Dilshan,
bought by Bangalore. A bit of
a bargain if you ask me, I
think he is definitely worth
more.
11:17: Each team can spend a
maximum of 9 million, so
spending 2.4 million on just
Gambhir is quite something.
11:16: Dilshan can be be
murderous in this form of the
game. Expect skyrocketing prices
for the Sri Lankan too.
11:15: Sri Lankan dasher
Dilshan under the hammer
now.
11:14: What a brilliant start to
the auction! Gambhir is sold to
Kolkata Knight Riders for
2,400,000 USD. 2.4 million for
Gambhir! 11.4 crore for the
India opener!
11:12: Gambhir was about to be
sold for 1,900,000 but Kolkata
comes in with a 2 million bid.
Hot property, Gambhir.
11:09: Pune and Mumbai in a
bidding war. The bid stands at
800,000 for Pune, but wait, we
have a new entrant. Bangalore
comes in with 900,000 USD!! The
bid is still on, 1 million now by
RCB.
11:06: You can cut the tension
with a knife. Richard Madley, the
auctioneer, puts Gautam
Gambhir up for sale. His base
price is 200,000. "I hear 250,000
for Mumbai. Now 260,000". This
is exciting. Let us wait and see
how much Gautam Gambhir is
sold for.
11:04: The IPL chairman Chirayi
Amin: "I'd like to congratulate all
the team owners and wish you
all the best in the auction. Also,
good luck to the players."
11:03: And we're off!
Introductory speeches begin.
11:01: Right, let us go through
the rules for a bit. Each team
needs to have a sqaud of 30
players, with not more than 10
overseas players.
10:59: I think the most
interesting part of today will be
the auction of Brian Lara. His
base price is 400,000 USD, a bit
steep for a player who hasn't
played competitive cricket for
three years.
10:56: Vijay Mallya, the owner of
the Bangalore franchise plays
down the importance of money
at the auction. "It isn't about the
money you have in your pockets,
it is about picking a well
balanced squad," he says.
The team owners and officials
are gathering in the auction
room in Bangalore now. We are
minutes away from bidding
action.

LIVE IPL auction in india

To wrap up the day’s
proceedings: the day opened
with Gautam Gambhir and it
turned out to be the costliest
one of the day at an astounding
$2.4 million for Kolkata Knight
Riders.
$57,900,000 were spent today at
IPL auction. Kochi had the most
buys, 11. Mumbai and Rajasthan
bought the least: four each.
Reigning champs Chennai Super
Kings bought six, out of which
four were retained. They lost
Muttiah Muralitharan to Kochi,
but went after R Ashwin, taking
him for $850,000, their costliest
buy.
Indian players were in great
demand – Yusuf Pathan was also
bought by Kolkata, for 2.1
million while Robin Uthappa
went to Pune Warriors for the
same price.
Rohit Sharma (2 million,
Mumbai), Irfan Pathan (1.9
million, Delhi), Yuvraj Singh (1.8
million, Pune), Saurabh Tiwary
(1.6 million Bangalore) were the
other top picks.
The highest paid foreign player is
Mahela Jayawardene, taken for
1.5 million by Kochi.
The big news from India’s point
of view was Sourav Ganguly
going unsold, along with his
Kolkata team-mates Chris Gayle
and Ajantha Mendis.
Ganguly’s contemporaries, Rahul
Dravid went to Rajasthan for
500,000 while VVS Laxman went
to Kochi for 400,000.
Brian Lara was also among the
players much talked about, but
the former West Indies batsman
did not get any bids.
Dale Steyn and Jacques Kallis
were the million-dollar buys
from South Africa — no
surprises there — but Johan
Botha drawing 950,000 from
Rajasthan was surprising.
Ravindra Jadeja was picked up by
Kochi for 950,000 as was
Sreesanth went to the same
team for 900,000.

Pragyan Ojha “stands tall like a

roars Sidhu. I’m sure he wasn’t

Kumble. Ojha has been retained
by Deccan for 500,000.

retain him for 850,000. “Young

17.12 - Graeme Swann goes
unsold! Shocker! Some teams
haven’t done their homework, it
seems. Swann is possibly the best
off-spinner on the international
circuit today and a handy bat
too. And who can forget his
Sprinkler Dance? Too good a
man to be considered.
17.10 - Muttiah Muralitharan
goes to Kochi for 1.1 million. No
surprises here. He had a terrific
IPL 2010 and Champions League
2010, and was one of the
reasons why Chennai won both
tournaments.
17.04 - Lots of comments about
Sourav Ganguly’s exclusion.
Sadly for Dada’s fans, the team
owners don’t share their
sentiments. “I won’t support KKR
without Ganguly,” says Sayan B.
Arup and Vikas Doshi call for a

16.58 - Dirk Nannes goes for
650,000 to Bangalore. Good
bowler, fair price.
16.55 - Ryan Harris goes to Kings
XI for 3250,000.
16.49 - Dale Steyn up next. He
starts at 200,000. This should be
interesting. 600,000 and
counting. Will Bangalore try to
retain him?
1 million and counting! Steyn is
the first pace bowler today to
reach into seven-figures.
Deccan take Steyn at 1.2
million.
16.48 - Morne Morkel goes to
Delhi for 475,000.
16.45 - Brett Lee goes for
Kolkata to 400,000. Interesting
buy. Lee has had major fitness
problems, though he’s been

16.38 - Praveen Kumar is doing
well. Delhi put 650,000 on the
table. Punjab make it 800,000,
and take Praveen away.
16.35 - Ishant Sharma next. In
2008, he was bought by Kolkata
by 950,000. Sold to Deccan for
450,000. No surprises here.
Ishant’s stock has fallen
dramatically since his fine start in
2008.
16.34 - After the break, Dilhara
Fernando goes unsold. Next,
James Anderson starts at
400,000, also goes unsold.
16.04 - James Franklin goes to
Mumbai for 100,000. The auction
breaks for 30 minutes before the
evening session.
16.03 - Steven Smith, the
upcoming leg-spinning all-
rounder from Australia, goes to
Kochi for 200,000.
16.02 - Dwayne Bravo goes to
Chennai for his base price,
200,000. Remember, Ravindra
Jadeja was bought for 950,000.
16.00 - Angelo Matthew, the
exciting Sri Lankan all-rounder,
goes to Pune for 950,000.
15.54 - Abhishek Nayar gets 16

Punjab for 800,000!
15.48 – England bowler Stuart
Broad, a fine all-rounder, goes
to Kings XI Punjab for 400,000.
15.46 – Bangladesh captain
Shakib Al Hasan goes to Kolkata
Knight Riders for 425,000.
15.45 – England’s Luke Wright
goes unsold.
15.39 – Ravindra Jadeja goes to
Kochi for 950,000. Where are the
Jadeja jokes now?
15.36 – Australian all-rounder
and former Kings XI Punjab
employee James Hopes moves
with Delhi Daredevils for
350,000.
15.33 - Davy Jacobs goes to
Mumbai for 190,000.
15.28 - No takes for Mark
Boucher and Matt Prior. They
are veteran players of the long
format; maybe the IPL teams
reckoned they don’t have a long
shelf life.
15.24 - Tim Paine, the Australian
keeper bat and their T20 vice-
captain, goes for 270,000 to
Pune.
15.19 - Brad Haddin, the
Australian keeper batsman, goes
to Kolkata for 325,000. Haddin
was in fine form in the Ashes.
15.16 - Naman Ojha goes to
Delhi for 270,000. There are
stress balls strewn over the
tables on all camps.
15.13 - Kings XI take Dinesh
Karthik for 900,000. A good
keeper, and a useful middle-
order bat. But is he better than
Parthiv and Saha?
15.07 -Parthiv goes to Kochi for
290,000. Chennai Super Kings
take Wriddhiman Saha for
100,000.

400,000. Any takers? No. Lara
goes unsold. This isn’t a
surprise. Lara has been talking of
making a comeback to cricket
but hasn’t been in great shape
for this level of cricket.
14.59 - David Warner, the big-
hitting Australian opener, is next.
He had made a hundred in the
last IPL playing for Delhi. He
goes to Delhi again, for 750,000.
14.58 - David Hussey goes to
Kings XI for 1.4 million. His more
accomplished brother Mike went
to Chennai for just 425,000.

Saurabh Tiwary. RCB had the

astonishing 1.4 million dollar, but
as auctioneer Richard Madley

claimed making a late bid. The
bid was for 1.6 million.
Meanwhile, check out photos

Tiwary has been sold to
Bangalore for 1.6 million.
14.40 – Shikhar Dhawan next.
He was with Mumbai. For
300,000 he goes to Deccan.
14.36 – JP Duminy next. Deccan
buy him for 300,000.
14.31 – Jesse Ryder unsold
immediately after the lunch
break. Herschelle Gibbs next.
The retired South African and
Deccan Chargers batsman also
goes unsold. Michael Hussey
next. Hussey has been retained
by Chennai at $425,000. Good

1.21 - RP Singh, the Purple Cap
winner in 2009, has gone to
Kochi for 500,000. He joins
Sreesanth there.
13.11 – Irfan Pathan next.
Remember what Yahoo! wrote
about him yesterday. He’s
striving to get back to top form
. His brother Yusuf has already
been sold for $2.1 million to
KKR.
Kings XI have put 1 million on
the table for Irfan! What next?
Kings XI want to retain Irfan.
They’ve not put 1.8 million on
Irfan. It’s a contest between
Kings XI and Delhi, who want
Pathan badly.
Delhi take Irfan for 1.9 million
— that’s four million dollars
between him and his brother
Yusuf.
13.10 - Another surprise! Chris
Gayle goes unsold. Who woulda
thunk?
13.04 - Sreesanth next. Will
Kochi go for him? Kochi cut in
late, at 900,000.
Kochi has managed to get
Sreesanth at 900,000.
13.02 - Brendon McCullum next.
Which team will go for him?
Remember his 158 in the first IPL
match? He goes to Kochi for
475,000. Sidhu describes
McCullum as a man with
‘paranormal abilities’.

12.57 – VVS Laxman goes to
Kochi for 400,000, his base
price.
12.49 - Johan Botha, the South
African all-rounder next. 700,000
and counting.
950,000 from Rajasthan and
Botha’s sold. Astonishing price
for a bits and pieces player.
12.42 - Robin Uthappa next.
The RCB batsman has had fitness
problems but he’s a hugely
popular player.
1 million on the table from
Kochi. They’re going for Indian
players at this auction.
2 million from Kochi! And the
bidding continues.
Pune take Uthappa at 2.1
million dollars! He’s the fourth
Indian today to draw a bid of $2
million or more.
12.39 - Graeme Smith, South
Africa captain and Rajasthan
opener, goes to Pune Warriors
for 500,000.
12.35 - Rahul Dravid goes to
Rajasthan Royals for 500,000.
That’s less than half of what
Bangalore’s Icon player had
been earlier paid.
12.29 - Adam Gilchrist next.
Captain of Deccan Chargers,
goes to Punjab, for 900,000.
12.27 – Kumar Sangakkara,
former captain of Kings XI and
current Sri Lanka captain, goes
to Deccan Chargers for 700,000.
12.25 – Mumbai Indians take
Andrew Symonds for 850,000.
Symonds had got 1.5 million at
the inaugural auction in 2008. He
will be playing in the same team
as Harbhajan Singh. How about
that?
12.21 - Rohit Sharma has been
sold to Mumbai for $ 2 million!
Do readers think this is a good
buy?
12.15 - It’s Kallis. This should be
a hotly-contested bid. Kallis has
been in excellent form, and had
done well in previous IPLs too.
Will RCB retain him? He goes for
1.1 million to Kolkata. This is
Kolkata’s third seven-figure buy

KKR and counting – yet another
millionaire today. $1.6m from

Yes it does! Kochi say 2 million
for Yusuf, KKR say 2.1 million.
Gambhir’s record is in danger.
Kolkata take Yusuf at $2.1
million. They had earlier taken
Gambhir at a record $2.4 million.
Kolkata have used half their
purse of $9 million.
11.23 - Ross Taylor, the big-
hitting Royal Challengers
batsman, is next. Rajasthan
Royals make an appearance, at
900,000. Now it’s 1 million. Two
million-dollar bids already in the
first 26 minutes.
Sold! Rajasthan snare Taylor at $
1 million, right under Mallya’s

11.20 – Zaheer Khan, formerly
Bangalore and Mumbai, next to

at $900,000.
11.17 – Tillakaratne Dilshan, the
Sri Lankan dasher formerly with
Delhi, is next under the hammer.
$650,000 and he goes to

11.06 - Gautam Gambhir is the
first marquee player to be
auctioned. Kochi open the bid
with at $200,000. Mumbai
Indians and Pune Warriors are
going for him. 450,000 and
counting. 700,000 and no respite.
This is a big opening. Kochi

Royal Challengers cut in at

counting from RCB!
1.8 million! Gambhir becomes

Gambhir has a base price of a

LIVE IPL auction in india

To wrap up the day’s
proceedings: the day opened
with Gautam Gambhir and it
turned out to be the costliest
one of the day at an astounding
$2.4 million for Kolkata Knight
Riders.
$57,900,000 were spent today at
IPL auction. Kochi had the most
buys, 11. Mumbai and Rajasthan
bought the least: four each.
Reigning champs Chennai Super
Kings bought six, out of which
four were retained. They lost
Muttiah Muralitharan to Kochi,
but went after R Ashwin, taking
him for $850,000, their costliest
buy.
Indian players were in great
demand – Yusuf Pathan was also
bought by Kolkata, for 2.1
million while Robin Uthappa
went to Pune Warriors for the
same price.
Rohit Sharma (2 million,
Mumbai), Irfan Pathan (1.9
million, Delhi), Yuvraj Singh (1.8
million, Pune), Saurabh Tiwary
(1.6 million Bangalore) were the
other top picks.
The highest paid foreign player is
Mahela Jayawardene, taken for
1.5 million by Kochi.
The big news from India’s point
of view was Sourav Ganguly
going unsold, along with his
Kolkata team-mates Chris Gayle
and Ajantha Mendis.
Ganguly’s contemporaries, Rahul
Dravid went to Rajasthan for
500,000 while VVS Laxman went
to Kochi for 400,000.
Brian Lara was also among the
players much talked about, but
the former West Indies batsman
did not get any bids.
Dale Steyn and Jacques Kallis
were the million-dollar buys
from South Africa — no
surprises there — but Johan
Botha drawing 950,000 from
Rajasthan was surprising.
Ravindra Jadeja was picked up by
Kochi for 950,000 as was
Sreesanth went to the same
team for 900,000.

keeper bat and their T20 vice-
captain, goes for 270,000 to
Pune.
15.19 - Brad Haddin, the
Australian keeper batsman, goes
to Kolkata for 325,000. Haddin
was in fine form in the Ashes.
15.16 - Naman Ojha goes to
Delhi for 270,000. There are
stress balls strewn over the
tables on all camps.
15.13 - Kings XI take Dinesh
Karthik for 900,000. A good
keeper, and a useful middle-
order bat. But is he better than
Parthiv and Saha?
15.07 -Parthiv goes to Kochi for
290,000. Chennai Super Kings
take Wriddhiman Saha for
100,000.

15.04 – Australian wicketkeeper
Graham Manou goes unsold.
Parthiv Patel next.
15.01 - Hold your breath, Brian
Lara is next. Base priced at
400,000. Any takers? No. Lara
goes unsold. This isn’t a
surprise. Lara has been talking of
making a comeback to cricket
but hasn’t been in great shape
for this level of cricket.
14.59 - David Warner, the big-
hitting Australian opener, is next.
He had made a hundred in the
last IPL playing for Delhi. He
goes to Delhi again, for 750,000.
14.58 - David Hussey goes to
Kings XI for 1.4 million. His more
accomplished brother Mike went
to Chennai for just 425,000.
Strange.

14.49 - Controversy over
Saurabh Tiwary. RCB had the
Ranchi youngster at an
astonishing 1.4 million dollar, but
as auctioneer Richard Madley
put the hammer down, Kings XI
claimed making a late bid. The
bid was for 1.6 million.
Meanwhile, check out photos
of the auction
.
Tiwary has been sold to
Bangalore for 1.6 million.
14.40 – Shikhar Dhawan next.
He was with Mumbai. For
300,000 he goes to Deccan.
14.36 – JP Duminy next. Deccan
buy him for 300,000.
14.31 – Jesse Ryder unsold
immediately after the lunch
break. Herschelle Gibbs next.
The retired South African and
Deccan Chargers batsman also
goes unsold. Michael Hussey
next. Hussey has been retained
by Chennai at $425,000. Good
buy.

We break for an hour-long
lunch.
1.21 - RP Singh, the Purple Cap
winner in 2009, has gone to
Kochi for 500,000. He joins
Sreesanth there.
13.11 – Irfan Pathan next.
Remember what Yahoo! wrote
about him yesterday. He’s
striving to get back to top form
. His brother Yusuf has already
been sold for $2.1 million to
KKR.
Kings XI have put 1 million on
the table for Irfan! What next?
Kings XI want to retain Irfan.
They’ve not put 1.8 million on
Irfan. It’s a contest between
Kings XI and Delhi, who want
Pathan badly.
Delhi take Irfan for 1.9 million
— that’s four million dollars
between him and his brother
Yusuf.
13.10 - Another surprise! Chris
Gayle goes unsold. Who woulda
thunk?
13.04 - Sreesanth next. Will
Kochi go for him? Kochi cut in
late, at 900,000.
Kochi has managed to get
Sreesanth at 900,000.
13.02 - Brendon McCullum next.
Which team will go for him?
Remember his 158 in the first IPL
match? He goes to Kochi for
475,000. Sidhu describes
McCullum as a man with
‘paranormal abilities’.

13.00 - Vettori goes to 550,000
to RCB. This makes no sense.
Vettori has consistently been one
of the best, most economical
spinners in all T20 cricket
.
12.57 – VVS Laxman goes to
Kochi for 400,000, his base
price.
12.49 - Johan Botha, the South
African all-rounder next. 700,000
and counting.
950,000 from Rajasthan and
Botha’s sold. Astonishing price
for a bits and pieces player.
12.42 - Robin Uthappa next.
The RCB batsman has had fitness
problems but he’s a hugely
popular player.
1 million on the table from
Kochi. They’re going for Indian
players at this auction.
2 million from Kochi! And the
bidding continues.
Pune take Uthappa at 2.1
million dollars! He’s the fourth
Indian today to draw a bid of $2
million or more.
12.39 - Graeme Smith, South
Africa captain and Rajasthan
opener, goes to Pune Warriors
for 500,000.
12.35 - Rahul Dravid goes to
Rajasthan Royals for 500,000.
That’s less than half of what
Bangalore’s Icon player had
been earlier paid.
12.29 - Adam Gilchrist next.
Captain of Deccan Chargers,
goes to Punjab, for 900,000.
12.27 – Kumar Sangakkara,
former captain of Kings XI and
current Sri Lanka captain, goes
to Deccan Chargers for 700,000.
12.25 – Mumbai Indians take
Andrew Symonds for 850,000.
Symonds had got 1.5 million at
the inaugural auction in 2008. He
will be playing in the same team
as Harbhajan Singh. How about
that?
12.21 - Rohit Sharma has been
sold to Mumbai for $ 2 million!
Do readers think this is a good
buy?
12.15 - It’s Kallis. This should be
a hotly-contested bid. Kallis has
been in excellent form, and had
done well in previous IPLs too.
Will RCB retain him? He goes for
1.1 million to Kolkata. This is
Kolkata’s third seven-figure buy
today. How will they build the
rest of the team?

The auction takes a 15 minute
break. The first session has seen
Kolkata spend half their purse of
9 million going just for Gambhir
and Yusuf Pathan. No action
from current champions
Chennai; Mumbai went after
Gambhir aggressively but they
haven’t made any buys yet.
Surprisingly, Zaheer who is in
such good form was sold for just
900,000 to his former IPL team
Bangalore.
Are batsmen valued more than
bowlers? Taylor, Mahela, Yuvraj
also drew seven-figure bids.
11.50 - AB de Villiers, the in-
form South African batsman,
goes to Bangalore for 1.1 million.
He was formerly with the Delhi
Daredevils.

11.43 - Yuvraj Singh is next.
Prepare for some surprises. Kings
XI open another bid at 1 million.
Pune Warriors take Yuvraj for
$ 1.8 million. That’s less than
what Yusuf and Gambhir got.
11.40 - Kings XI fianlly wake up.
They go for one of their own,
Mahela Jayawardene at $1
million. Remember, Mahela had
a terrific IPL 2010 and World T20
2010. Kochi are on the
telephone, they go for Mahela at
1.5 million. And Mahela’s sold
to Kochi at 1.5 million.

950,000 from Deccan – they
want him bad. $1.3 million from
KKR and counting – yet another
millionaire today. $1.6m from
Kochi. $1.7m from KKR, Kochi
hit back with $1.8m. Will this bid
cross 2 million?
Yes it does! Kochi say 2 million
for Yusuf, KKR say 2.1 million.
Gambhir’s record is in danger.
Kolkata take Yusuf at $2.1
million. They had earlier taken
Gambhir at a record $2.4 million.
Kolkata have used half their
purse of $9 million.
11.23 - Ross Taylor, the big-
hitting Royal Challengers
batsman, is next. Rajasthan
Royals make an appearance, at
900,000. Now it’s 1 million. Two
million-dollar bids already in the
first 26 minutes.
Sold! Rajasthan snare Taylor at $
1 million, right under Mallya’s
nose.
11.20 – Zaheer Khan, formerly
Bangalore and Mumbai, next to
be auctioned. Bangalore get him
at $900,000.
11.17 – Tillakaratne Dilshan, the
Sri Lankan dasher formerly with
Delhi, is next under the hammer.
$650,000 and he goes to
Bangalore.
11.06 - Gautam Gambhir is the
first marquee player to be
auctioned. Kochi open the bid
with at $200,000. Mumbai
Indians and Pune Warriors are
going for him. 450,000 and
counting. 700,000 and no respite.
This is a big opening. Kochi
jumps back into it at 850,000.
Royal Challengers cut in at
900,000. One million and
counting from RCB!
1.8 million! Gambhir becomes
the highest paid IPL player!
And the bidding goes on.
2 million! Kolkata make their first
move, and it’s a big move.
Gambhir has a base price of a
mere $200,000.
At 2.4 million dollars, or 11.04
crore rupees Gautam Gambhir
is sold to Kolkata. This is the
highest an IPL player has been
ever paid. What a start to the
auction.

Kamma vs Kapu: Tollywood split in the politics

Tollywood divided in to two
groups? Is the caste ruling the
hearts of Tollywood family? Will
the anti Kapu’s announce their
non-cooperation to their co-star
Chiranjeevi’s political party.
The answer is ‘yes’ if you observe
the scenario that took place at
election of new body for Andhra
Pradesh Film Chamber of
Commerce. It is a well known
fact that the majority people in
Tollywood belong to Kamma
community. They all (?) have
announced their unconditional
support to KS Rama Rao, who
had been elected as the
President of new body of APFCC.
KS Rama Rao and Allu Aravind
(who is a Kapu) contested for
this position and Allu Aravind
was forced to sign off from the
elections as he got the clear
picture of what’s happening over
there.
KS Rama Rao, however, stated
that he is not against Allu
Aravind personally. Some of the
Tollywood big wigs ruled out the
allegations of caste politics in
Telugu cine field. But it is evident
that Chiranjeevi is going to get
minimal support from Tollywood
for some ‘special’ reasons.
